Stone N String, Colombo 3

Stone N String is a renowned retail business specialized in Designer Jewelry, Precious & Semi Precious Jewelry in Sri Lanka. The 11 storied Stone N String houses the showroom, factory, accommodation and offices. The building is the first ever steel shell construction multi story building in Sri Lanka. Decorative elements have been avoided conforming to simplicity and to give prominence to signage as a means of advertising.

Scanwell Freight Express, Colombo 3

Scanwell, located overlooking the Beira Lake, is six floors with two levels of vehicular parking and the others housing their head office. The building captures the scenic view of the lake and surroundings. The façade to the lakefront, with green troughs, becomes a green wall with time. The entrance is contained within a projected cantilever and the floors above are held through a suspended steel bracing which transfers the loads to the structure.

LMD House, Corporate Office, Colombo 5

The corporate office of the publishers of the renowned journal The Lanka Monthly Digest and Living Magazine is situated amidst a residential setting in Colombo, a moderately built up area with much greenscape. The inspiration was derived from the setting, to create the feeling of one “working in a garden” centered on the lush green residential setting to add not an alien but an element to the context. The building was proposed as a transparent envelope that interconnects with the surrounding.

Bus Terminal and Town Centre Development Matara

Matara Town Center & Bus Terminal Development is a pioneering project undertaken by the government in the transport sector, as a modern Bus Parking facility to suit future transport needs of the South. Located in the southern coastal belt, the Terminal is for 35 private and public transport buses, an overlay Bus Park for an additional 27, and a commercial area for 105 Shops, a Restaurant, and a Bank. The concept was the culmination of aesthetics, conservation requirements, and user needs, to enhance the micro urban environment, and the streetscape of a rather uninteresting and a drab neighborhood of Matara. With easy access from all directions, the Terminal is sandwiched between busy traffic routes on 2 sides and the sea. Pedestrian accessibility from several directions has been a major criterion in the design. The Bridge over Tangalle River and the Ramparts of the old Matara Fort has been the generator of the form and the details. The design was awarded the ‘Sanstha (Holcim) Award’ for this Project by Holcim for Socially Responsive Architecture.
